|Joyful Challenge Campaign|
JOY. An experience of great pleasure, delight, and well-being. The apostle John, who wrote the words above, had such joy. He took delight in helping early Christian believers walk in the truth. He loved them so much so that he called them his children. And he knew that if they continued to walk in the truth, the truth would flourish long after he was gone.
JOY IN OUR MISSION. Today, the community known as Concordia Lutheran Schools of Omaha takes great joy in bringing the next generation up in that same truth. Our mission is to prepare young people for lives of faith, service and leadership as Christian disciples. Our students are shaped to become people who joyfully serve others, because they have experienced the love of the ultimate servant, Jesus Christ.
At Concordia, we fulfill our mission by providing a high-quality, college-preparatory education centered in the love of Jesus Christ. Our board, administrators, parents and member churches all take joy in passing on precious values and knowledge to the next generation. This is our legacy.
JOY IN MOMENTUM. In just our first 11 years, Concordia Jr./Sr. High has grown from an initial enrollment of 45 students to nearly 300 students in grades 7 through 12. This rising enrollment is both a blessing and a challenge, as we have outgrown our original facilities.
JOY IN OPPORTUNITY. As more families hunger for an education that provides a firm spiritual and moral foundation, our schools’ leaders see an opportunity to make a bigger impact on our community.
By building a new classroom wing, we will impact lives by opening Concordia to 75 more students. By building a new, larger gymnasium, locker rooms and training facilities, we will provide a dramatically improved venue for the character-building, healthy educational opportunities provided by physical education and athletic team competition. By expanding the school’s commons, we will serve the larger student body and major events that will be held on our enhanced campus, creating an inviting new front entrance to the building.
These major additions to our campus, estimated to cost $6.9 million, will make it possible to serve more students. They will enhance recruiting and help us connect with our student families and our community by enabling us to host many athletic competitions on campus.
Our current gym, with its low ceiling and seating capacity for just 300 spectators, is unsuitable for varsity athletic events. It lacks adequate practice space for our growing number of athletic teams. It means that manystudents must travel to practices off-site or practice at odd hours whenever the only on-site court is available.
In addition to improving our students’ experience, the new facilities will enable us to host tournaments and other community events, bringing many people to campus, increasing awareness of our schools and serving as an engine of growth for our mission. We view this next phase as urgently necessary if Concordia is to seize the joyous opportunity to shine the light of Christ deeper into our community.
JOY IN OUR FUTURE. The new classrooms, commons addition and gymnasium complex make up the first phase of expansion for our school. Our master plan includes future development to include a larger music practice facility, improvements and additions to our athletic fields, an auditorium for chapel and fine arts performances, and more classrooms to expand our mission to more students.
JOY IN GIVING. Our Concordia Schools family takes joy in serving a Savior who, “for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God" (Hebrews 12:2). As those who have been given much by Him, we have no greater joy than to give the precious gifts of the Gospel and an outstanding education to the next generation. Through these gifts, our students are strengthened in faith and equipped to carry on the legacy. They will be equipped to be the next generation that shines the light and love of Christ in the world. We ask you to join us in this joyous activity of giving, contributing as the Lord has blessed you to expand a school where our children walk in, and grow in, the truth.
To reach this joyful vision, we must take the first major step now. That is where you can help.
